Sublime and sovereign - just as a king has to be, the mighty ibexes present themselves at the foot of the Grossglockner. Here, in the habitat of the largest wild boar colony in the Hohe Tauern National Park, this wildlife safari takes you to visit the kings of the Alps.

For centuries, the impressive ibex was hunted in the Alps and exterminated by a hair's breadth. In the National Park Gran Paradiso in the Italian Alps, this fascinating species of wildlife found its last refuge and from there originate the first specimens, which were resurrected more than 50 years ago here in the National Park Hohe Tauern. Today there is an impressive population here again, which represents the goal of this fascinating wildlife safari.

Hannes, head of the Lodge National Park, inherited his love for nature from his ancestors: his grandfather was the main initiator for the reinstatement of the wild boar, while his father is now chairman of the stone-game community, which together with the national park management protects and cares for the wild boar at the Grossglockner. It is therefore a matter of honour that Hannes himself leads this "Into the Wild" tour and, after breakfast at the National Park Lodge Shuttle, curves up the Glockner Road with us. The mountain flank of the proud 3000-metre Racherin (3,092m) is crossed on lonely, old hunting trails, always in search of the wildlife in the national park. With his knowledge of the area and experience as an experienced mountain hunter, we will hopefully soon find what we are looking for. Especially to watch the mighty ibexes with their horns almost one meter long in the wild is a truly magical "Into the Wild" moment. But also chamois, marmots, golden eagles and sometimes even a huge bearded vulture can be seen in this lonely corner of the National Park. Our tip: always pack the camera into your backpack!
