From the glacier to the sea and directly past the National Park Lodge: the multi-award-winning long-distance hiking trail Alpe-Adria-Trail promises us a hiking experience of superlatives. The varied starting stage, from the edge of the Pasterzen glacier down to Heiligenblut offers more than just a foretaste of this extraordinary long-distance hiking route!

In recent years, the Alpe-Adria-Trail has received three awards from the world's largest travel magazine National Geographic Traveler. And the team at the National Park Lodge is proud that this magnificent long-distance trail starts here in the National Park. With "Into the Wild" we dive into this grandiose long-distance hiking adventure: on the varied starting stage that leads from the rugged, glaciated high mountains down into the lush green mountain farming cultural landscape around Heiligenblut.

The three pillars of the Alpe-Adria-Trail starting point are prominent, directly opposite the Grossglockner into the clear high mountain skies. This is exactly where our "Into the Wild" adventure tour starts, with which we will spend a day immersed in the incomparable hiking adventure on the Alpe-Adriatic Trail. We first descend steeply to the edge of the Pasterzen glacier, where an arctic landscape with turquoise-blue glacier lakes, on which small icebergs float, awaits us. Later we cross a suspension bridge, under which the young Möllfluss plunges into an impressive gorge. Step by step we leave this archaic high mountain landscape and enter a lush green alpine pastureland. Steep is the way past the enchanting waterfall, before the Briccius chapel invites you to a contemplative rest, because here you will find the death place of Briccius, who brought the blood of Christ to Heiligenblut. We have now earned a hearty stop at the cosy Briccius alpine dairy, before the idyllic Haritzersteig is the last, particularly charming trail and then suddenly and abruptly we arrive at the National Park Lodge in Heiligenblut. Now we are sure: the Alpe-Adriatic Trail has earned its awards and maybe we will return one day and then go the remaining 37 stages!
